Many years ago, I was in a band called Midwich Cuckoos. I think I've written about them previously so, I shan't bore you again.
One day, back in 1991, Phil Gaze was visiting whilst I was writing a review of a 4 track cassette recorder for a (now defunct) magazine called Home & Studio Recording. (The Editor was one Paul White, who seemed to believe that EQ was The Devil, but seems to have calmed down a bit since, and now flies all over the world eating chocolate biscuits). Anyway, whilst Phil was over, I thought I'd show him how quick it was to record a song, so I recorded a version of one of Midwich Cuckoos' songs Day Out Children, inspired by the sort of dreamy house music that was peddled by The Beloved and others around that time. I'm not sure that it is very good (certainly doesn't bear much similarity to the original), but I promised Richard Nind (the original author and singer of said number) that I'd post it.. Hope you like it Richard!
I've just stumbled across an old usenet posting from 11 years ago, showing the highlights of an internet survey I conducted back in 1991. I asked the usenet group talk.philosophy.misc “what is your favourite flightless bird, and in less than 14 words, why?”
The results are quite illuminating.
So, what is your favourite flightless bird?
