Day Out Children

Many years ago, I was in a band called Midwich Cuckoos. I think I've written about them previously so, I shan't bore you again.

One day, back in 1991, Phil Gaze was visiting whilst I was writing a review of a 4 track cassette recorder for a (now defunct) magazine called Home & Studio Recording. (The Editor was one Paul White, who seemed to believe that EQ was The Devil, but seems to have calmed down a bit since, and now flies all over the world eating chocolate biscuits). Anyway, whilst Phil was over, I thought I'd show him how quick it was to record a song, so I recorded a version of one of Midwich Cuckoos' songs Day Out Children, inspired by the sort of dreamy house music that was peddled by The Beloved and others around that time. I'm not sure that it is very good (certainly doesn't bear much similarity to the original), but I promised Richard Nind (the original author and singer of said number) that I'd post it.. Hope you like it Richard!

as you have 'another' one on the way, will this mean we get another recording from you? I hope so.

Rohan, that was the second thought I had when I found out! The first thought was some sort of combination of “congratulations - going to be a handful with two wee ones!” and the second thought was “I wonder if there'll be a sort of 'RH- Impressions volume II' now”, and putting the first one in for another listen.

It has occurred to me that the colours of Indigo and Pumpkin are complimentary and would share a sort of funky sympathetic vibration if painted together in stripes.
