Rh- Impressions

A surprise (well, it surprised me anyway!) 3rd album of new music in 2004 (joining Never Stop Breathing and If Not Then Else) is Rh- Impressions, which was recorded over three afternoons in November 2004. All titles are first take pure improvisations (fluffed notes included) recorded with no preparation, planning or preconception.
The main instrument was a Yamaha C6 Disklavier, recorded with a matched pair of Avenson Audio reference microphones. These were often placed in unorthodox locations (e.g. inside guitars, or next to snare drums), to achieve some unconventional piano tones. On other occasions, the audio has undergone some post-processing, or doubling with samples. In order to retain the “first take, warts and all” spirit, there were no overdubs or edits. The album contains 26 improvisations (whose titles are potential baby names). Posted by nikn | TrackBack

just got the CD…
It's a really lovely recording, showing you at your most natural and reflective. It's both well and innovatively recorded. Track 18 stands out as the best for a couple of reasons :-)
Jarret without the 'cat trapped under the piano lid' noises… Sink into your chair, immerse yourself in sound and watch your ills slip away.

Oh, I am slow… I just realized what the landscape painting is really of… and I've done landscapes like this!

Let's see if this comment posts ;)

What an amazing piece of work this album is! I am thoroughly enjoying it. The unorthodox positioning of microphones definitely changes the timbre in some of the pieces, really well done.

“H” was one of our potential baby names as well. With “Abernathy” for a middle name.

Harvey and I are sending good vibes for Chubs' grand entrance into the world, when Tosha ceases to be the ChubHotel™ and morphs into Chub's All-night-diner and smorgasbord. :)

Chubs says he can't wait to hear you play piano for him. He says daddy has magic fingers!

I don't know, would they allow a baby grand in the delivery room?…
