When Al Gore invented the Internet (yes, really), different people had different ideas of what the web was all about. Some people thought it was a great opportunity to replace printed media with electronic versions. Others thought that the personal publishing revolution was the most significant innovation. Companies saw the potential of the electronic shopfront. Pornographers quickly saw the opportunity for making money via largely anonymous transactions. The music and film industries (having made $$$s out of releasing digital versions of their products over the previous 10 years) started getting worried that this may not have been such a great idea after all. This is the beauty of the web. It is many things to many people. It is both good and bad and indifferent all at the same time. There is no single example which illustrates the strength and power of the web.
But if there was, it would be this.

The latest news from the wonderful World Of Science is that around 8% of male sheep prefer… other male sheep! The studies indicate that Gay Sheep have smaller ovine sexually dimorphic nuclei (oSDNs) than Straight Sheep (which I guess is exactly what you or I would have expected). However, there is no evidence that ovine sexual preference is in any way affected by overprotective ewes, absent rams, or early exposure to Judy Garland.
In other news, my website has recently been hit by the feared Hieronymus Bosch worm. Should you see a Hieronymus, then do not click it! It will infect your PC (not to mention your psyche) with slightly disturbing artwork from the late Middle Ages.
(Update: Microsoft have released a patch to protect against the Bosch work, which will render the images ineffective by transforming them into perfectly harmless Dilbert cartoons).
I've noticed that I don't usually post any links to hardcore pornography on this website, so I've decided to change my ways. Shrimp.Tripod.Com has been highly commended in the “CyberSmut 2003” competition, and I'm not surprised - in fact, I think it should have won outright.
