Master & Servant

Its a lot! Its a lot! It's a lot! Its a lot! It's a lot LIKE LIFE!!

Ah yes, the mid eighties. Just when Depeche Mode were moving from teeny-synthpop to S&M Perv gods, they released the song Master & Servant.

Being a leatherclad S&M Perv god herself, my beautiful wife opted to perform a fingerclickin' swing version of this debauched classic a few weeks ago, and the results are something to behold.

The Strobes

Nik J Hammond
The Strobes are five tousle-haired musicians from New York, whose debut album “What Was That?” was released two years ago to thunderous applause from critics and the public alike. After a hectic touring schedule, and an aborted set of recording sessions with Godric Niggle (esteemed engineer to Oxford art-rockers TeleFace), they've returned to record their second album in much the same way as their first.

The new album “Don't play with matches” came out last month to mixed reviews, some saying that The Strobes have no place in a market place dominated by The Robert Wyatt Strips, and The Waspnests. But, even though the new album is barely 13 minutes long, other reviewers have said that it is the most significant release of 2003. Who is right? Who knows? And frankly, who cares? But listen to their new single What You See Is What You Get, and make up your own mind.

Ode to a Kittenhead

We've finally come to the conclusion that Oreo is not coming home. Rather like the “lipstick marks still on your coffee cup”, her food bowl remains loyally out in the kitchen, but I don't think it will be for much longer. She was an excellent cat, who was loved by everyone she met. Since she disappeared, she has been the talking point throughout the village (which probably says something about the village we live in, but also goes to show what a lovely cat she was).

She was one of the more loved cats I've met, who had her own web site dedicated to her (www.kittenhead.co.uk), and a whole collection of songs that Tosha and I would sing for her. Last week, I recorded a final song in honour of Oreo J Kittenhead.

I hope that she is warm and happy wherever she is, catching some mice and rabbits.

Lost Kitten

Our furry baby daughter, Oreo, went out on Wednesday evening, and has not yet come back. We spent the weekend scouring the village, asking everybody, and distributing “have you seen…” flyers, but to no avail.

We are still hoping that she is going to suddenly appear, having been locked in someone's shed for a week, but our hopes are fading fast. It is a sad day.
